Projects
Marital satisfaction, relational schemas, and attentional processes
Project by: Élise Chaperon
This project research focuses on training insecure-attached individuals to perceive their social environment more positively, including their romantic partner, by paying more attention to signals of acceptance and less to those of rejection. We believe that the development of these "positive" cognitive habits will improve the quality of the romantic relationship (e.g. reduced conflict, greater relationship satisfaction). Furthermore, we believe that improving relationship quality will in turn promote attachment security. This study is among first to examine the effects caused by changing these "negative" cognitive habits in couple context. The expected results could provide a valuable tool for use in marital conflict therapy.
